That Meryl Streep moment, as it became after 'The French Lieutenant's Woman' had been filmed here in 1980, with the Outer Breakwater of the Cobb awash in a bursting south-westerly wave. The view is eastwards to Stonebarrow Hill and Cain's Folly (top left) and the familiar profile of Golden Cap (central skyline) with Thorncombe Beacon to the east (right). A fishing boat is venturing out from the Cobb, but no one has braved the slanting seat (which has since been removed). Frith's photographer, standing on the High Wall, must have been soaked.
