A Memory of Mexborough.

I was born in Mexborough on Church street in 1944one of twins, my father was a miner and we lived at Royal Oak Terrace , I had a brother Alan sisters Val Julia and Susan we did not have the best of starts in life but we got by. We all went to Doncaster Road school and Ad wick Road school , we left Mexborough in 1956 and went to live on a farm near Bradford .this was my aunt and uncles, from then on we made our own way in life worked hard in the woollen mills and had a good standard of living. We all Married in the 60s and all five of us are still with our husbands and wives.
I often think of people I remember as a child in Mexborough and family on my fathers side we left behind.Larrain

Mexborough
I was born at 26 Hope street in 1952 where I lived with Mam & Dad and my brother William who was named after my dad who died on Christmas Eve 1969,up until 13th march 1972 where I left to join the forces, and sorry to say my mam was heartbroken at this, but in later life I said how bad I felt and told Mam it was the best thing I had done in my life.
Now Mexborough I went to my first school which was garden street, then schofield street, went on to dolcilffe road, but this school amalgamated with adwick road in the old grammar school and became Mexborough secondary modern, where I got involved in music with a few of the lads and was known for this while there, and one of them went on to the bigger stage with a heavy rock band who I was big mates with and went on holiday together in our early days.
I often pay a visit to Mexborough for a look round, and remember my play day memories, football in the park behind Holmes pop factory on cliffs street, This is memory lane people who I know are decent good Mexborough people and a lot of history is in this town, my name Robert Hayes retired now, and what a great life I've had proud to have served & can walk down the street with respect.
