More about this scene

In 1959 Mrs Stella Hotblack bought the Priory and promptly gave it to the Sussex Archaeological Society, a pro-active antiquarian society that also owns Anne of Cleves House Museum in Lewes, Fishbourne Roman Palace and Lewes Castle. There are many attractions here, including a physic garden, a rope museum and an Iron Age centre. There are several important farm buildings, including the Long Barn, which has been dendro- ; the monks' watermill has been restored, and is now grinding corn again. This view shows the barn's steep roof and the later cart shed built alongside its main wall.
