I lived at Commonside East, Pollards Hill. I went to Alfred Mizen Primary School and then Pollards Hill Secondary School from 1965-1971. I have good memories of both schools, including swimming outdoors at Alfred Mizen until October, the weather was a lot colder then! I grew up in Mitcham in the 1960s. Born in 1962, we lived in Tonstall Road, close to the level crossing by Eastfields school. I went to St Mark’s Primary School from 1967 to 1971. I remember most of my teachers: Miss Holmes, Mrs Carmichael, Miss Edge, Mr Myers. The headmaster was Mr Waverley when I started, who was succeeded by Mr Freemantle, known as “Froggy” Freemantle. I was born Leslie Dennis Crutch in Grove Road 1948. My brother Ken was born 9 months after dad (Ronald Kenneth) had gone to Normandy as part of the landings - I was born 9 months after he was demobbed (funny that) to mum Winifred Blanch Crutch nee Sanders.
