More about this scene
Not only did New Brighton attract vast numbers of visitors from Liverpool and Lancashire, but also hawkers too. They would arrive on an early ferry with their wicker baskets and 'set up shop' along the promenade or on the beach. They would try to peddle such things as rock, drinks, postcards, paper windmills, shells, beads and flowers. A group of such ladies can be seen here seated on the promenade (left).
