I was born and brought up in Normanton until moving to Cornwall in 1969. Reading Brian's memory brought back lovely memories of living in Sunny Bank and visiting my friend's house in Kingsway, {we went to the secondary modern school together}, they were called Clayton and lived opposite a family called Close whose Mother was named Nelly - maybe Brian's family? Normanton and those days will always have a special place in my heart.
