More about this scene

Mac Fisheries, far left, was a regular on TV ads; Marks and Spencer's, built on the City Cinema site, has been open a year, next to Woolworth's, the other High Street favourite. Eastern Counties ran the bus services from 1913 when they took over the trams; here, they are supplying transport home for loaded shoppers without access to a car. More affluent visitors could board at the Grand Hotel opposite the Town Hall for £30 a week.
