Murder In Rochdale 1960s
A Memory of Rochdale.
I was working at John Brights Fieldhouse Mills from 1959 - 1964. To begin with I worked in Canvas No 5 0ffice. The office manager was Rupert Parrington, and some time in 1960/61 he employed a new clerk by the name of Marilyn ? About 6 weeks after starting work she failed to,turn up,for work on Monday morning. That same weekend there had been a murder in Rochdale, and we subsequently discovered that Marilyn had been the victim.
This is were the story becomes a little sketchy, I was under the impression that the murder was carried out by her husband "Terry Nyland?"(I'm not sure about the name). The husband was held on remand at Strangeways, but presumably, filled with remorse, killed himself by throwing himself off the balcony, which is why prisons now have safety nets.
This story is only as I remember it, if anyone can throw any light on this story, I would be pleased to here it.
I left Rochdale in 1966, but still have fond memories of growing in up there. Onward Hornets Onward
