Sherry's was a milk, ice cream and coffee bar, as you say opposite the Odeon. My father and mother were the managers there in the 60's. My dad made the best milkshakes and ice cream sundaes. Many top bands appeared at the Odeon and used the bar before and after performances. There was an autograph book which was kept by the counter. My eldest sister still has it. I would catch the 252 bus to Romford Markets on a Saturday morning, I was learning to play the piano and singing pop songs. There was a music stall there with single sheet music and books. I would buy the latest pop songs of Cilla Black, Sandie Shaw, Lulu and go home and play and sing them. I lived in Cross roads at number 66.

Found this memory from Marlene Bennett i to lived i warren drive went to benhurst school remembered MR Tew Miss McDonald Mrs Nelson who I was terrified of used to make all sorts of excuses not to go to school ,we used to play over the park a lovely place then cornfields woods the river that we used to jump ,unfortunaly it is not like it now , there was a paddling pool there it was a treat for us to go there ...see more
I well remember as a small girl going to the top of Kensington Road to watch the cattle being driven to the market on a Wednesday morning, I think they were from Fowlers Farm but not too sure about that one, then we used to go to the market and watch the cattle being auctioned and also to watch Lou the handbag man selling his bags and purses. my friend and I went to sherry a lot and then I work there not for long the little old man that owen it was a well not a very nice. we uses to go to comos as well.

Hi, I'm an ex Romford lad, I lived in 61 Douglas Road from 1942-1958. When I left school in 1950 I started work in the London Co-op in Park Lane as an errand boy. I bought my first bicycle from Sisselys in Rush Green, it was a Sunbeam, I had that for a good many years and went out weekends on it. Hi all, I was born at No 86 Dagenham Road which at the time was Harris and.sons Greengrocers shop born in 1943 and lived there until1961. My Brothers Richard John and Norman used to manage the shop until my Mother Violet Gladys Harris sold it to my Aunt Nell and cousins Tony and Peter Butler.
