More about this scene

When this market hall was built a number of houses, shops and even a church were demolished to make way for it. There has been a great deal of concern locally following the severe decline of old Runcorn that resulted from all the investment in the new town development around Halton Lea. Today this market has also gone but the site is now part of a new local multi-million pound regeneration scheme, including a new market hall.

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I lived in Runcorn until I was 8 (1960s) and I remember going into town on the bus with my mother. We would always stop at "Le Rendezvous" (which as a child I remember thinking was a very strange word) and she would get a "frothy coffee" (we didn't call it cappuccino back then). It was served in a pyrex cup and saucer. I would usually have Horlicks (made in a specially branded Horlicks whisk machine).
