Geoff Clarke 1962 1970 Troy

A Memory of Swanwick.

Getting in to Swanwick Hall Grammar School from Kilburn Junior School was an incredible surprise for me but I did OK all thanks to the amazing teachers there at the time and it set the scene for the rest of my life. It got me into the third best Uni for law ( Nottingham) and gave me a confidence in my own ability which has lasted a lifetime. Thank you in particular to Mick Clarke , Dick Moon and the Head Mr Evans. Hopefully, someone from my time there will read this, remember me and get in touch.
I loved nearly every day of my time at the school apart from the days early when we had to do cross-country ( and dancing! ) which I hated! I remember though Mick Brewster being an outstanding middle distance runner which was great on Sports Day because we were both in Troy house.
Unfortunately, I have lost contact with everyone except Mick Porter and a friend from Uni who coincidentally went there to teach maths for his whole working life.
Finally, a quick `Hello' to a few special people... Judith, Lisa, Susan Godkin, Ced, Mick of course, Chris Hardstaff,
Fred Coleman and Nigel Jones who had the most horrendous leg break plus John Sparram for carrying most of our kit on our Duke of Edinburgh course when I twisted my ankle!
Hope you are all well and very happy !
Love to hear from you
Geoff

Hello Geoff.
Alan Bullock here. We were classmates and teammates I think back in the 60s in that great school. I remember some of the names you mentioned too. Weren’t you on the Mediterranean cruise in 66?
Sadly, I’m not sure if you know that Mick ( Stan) Brewster was murdered in the 2005 London bombings at Edgware Road Station. Very tragic.

Anyway, best wishes. Alan
The room nearest camera was my first classroom in 1948, with a Chilean Pine standing outside. The tree was gone when I was last there for the 75th anniversary in about 97. I was in Athens, who always won the athletics and in my final year, 1954, the school held a historical pageant on the lawns in front of the old Hall. It was an enjoyable time, slightly marred by a headmaster who took aloofness to a whole new level.
