St Anns C Of E Primary School In The 60's

A Memory of Tottenham.

I hit my 60th birthday at the end of last September. I look back over my life which took a few detours over the years with very fond memories of my primary school life.

I adore my 4 children and great grandchildren and realised fairly recently that St Ann's primary school not only gave me a great start in life but many every day school things from when I was 4 until though to 11 are grounded firmly in my memory with fondness.

For example songs we sang in music time with Mrs Turvey I can still sing along with my grandchildren. Who are amazed I know the words. Just one being Mrs Polly had a dolly Games that we played on special occasions..I am re teaching my daughter to play at her children's birthday parties. Who remembers I sent a letter to my love and on the way I dropped it, or who s stolen the the kings keys. I fondly remember Mrs MacDonald in my very first year...who gifted us with foil wrapped cadburys chocolate fingers, after a spell in hospital ..after having tonsils out. Routine in those days. She was a no nonsense teacher.😉 . My best friend was Wendy Robins, who lived near the spurs ground and walked back and forth to school every day with her siblings. ( I lived in St Ann's rd.) I used to love going back to her house after school with her huge dogs and lots of siblings. I loved her mums egg and chips. My mum never made chips haha. I cried in class 1 when I found she was leaving to go to St Catherine's school..I was a year younger and had to stay another year..but not being a Catholic meant I d never go to school with her again.

I remember the naughty boys..Ronald B always in trouble...the popular boys, and the popular girls. Goodness I wished I could have been Debra W so popular and had great birthday parties. There was Debra M Vicky W Patricia G
and Patricia W. Clive Gary Sid. Ha ha. I wonder where their lives lead them.so funny I remember class mates names from then, but not my secondary school except one or two.

It's sad to think those teachers are long gone and won't ever know how they inspired and encouraged. Although not appreciated at the time. 😉

If I were to physically able to re visit any time in my past it would be to those days. My first unrequited love Trevor Bun, playing marbles or kiss chase or jacks in playground. I was not popular and probably not remembered by class mates, but if I wish for one thing it's that my grandchildren will cherish their memories of these times when they look back in 60 years. Although they are lucky not having to walk through pea soup type fog or smog from coal fires or live through freezing winters without central heating. . I wonder if school dinner treats include spam fritters and chips still (ugh!) But I loved the chocolate custard haha
