Twickenham 1960 Turncock.
A Memory of Twickenham.
Re Mr Winkworths memory. I remember TURNCOCKS. The bike had a red frame as he says. Also I remember large white metal mudgards. The brakes were rod brakes rather than cable, however I could be wrong on this fact. The wheel rims were bright chrome and tyres may have been 26X 1 3/8. The big leather straps that held on the tools of the trade. I remember the turncock in Hanwell where I lived visited the street often. We used to stand and watch in wonder as he pulled up and undid the leather straps and carried out his work. Then he was off. People had such pride in their work in those far off days.
