More about this scene

Head towards Hailsham, avoiding the A22, and you pass through the oddly named Upper Dicker, mostly an Edwardian estate village. At the crossroads stands The Dicker, a somewhat eclectic and odd mansion of 1908, now St Bede's School. This was built for the notorious MP, Horatio Bottomley, jailed for fraud in 1922, in nouveau-riche medieval-cum-Swiss chalet style.
