The Whitcombs Of Waterloovillle

A Memory of Waterlooville.

I have just discovered this site and it was with great pleasure that I read the kind contribution of locals who were born and raised in Waterlooville. My late father was born there in 1916, at The Pines (now a nursing home). His parents were Mr Frank and Mrs Amy Whitcomb. Her parents, Mr and Mrs Charles Horn, lived at The Beeches (now the dental practice) in London Road and later she built Lewes House as a retirement property. Her two younger sisters married two of the Wadham brothers (the tailors rather than the mechanics) and her brother, Jack Horn, was the GP for Denmead, working out of his house and surgery, Newlands (which sadly was knocked down a few years ago to make way for a small group of houses). I have many happy memories as a young child of visiting my grandmother's house in London Road and taking tea with my great aunt at Newlands in Denmead.

Thank you to everyone who has shared memories of Waterlooville as it was in times gone by. There is now very little to identify the original village that my family would have remembered, but it is lovely to read memories shared by others.
