Diane Kurn And Rosiland Dry

A Memory of Croydon.

We were always good friends the closest...
Rosoland died quite young and I had moved from Croydon and settled where she had moved to years before. Hastings.
I was born in 2 Stretton Road East Croydon. stones throw from Davidson Road, then Infants and Seniors. I attended both. When I found out I was one day over the cut off for leaving in my 15 th year I got a transfer to Lancfranc F
Girls School and enrolled in a 2 year typing and shorthand course.
I left after 6 months and got a job which was dead simple back then, working up London's Savile Row in the heart of all that I was going to love..Music and Shopping....
Croydon memories for me..
Kennards a wonderland with the Arcade with the stalls and the Donkeys..Christmas Grotto was amazing..
The Scarborough Swimming Pools where my late Dad took myself and Sister Jacqueline to learn to swim..Sundays normally, as he worked 6 days a week as a centre lathe turner in South Norwood initially then moved to Morland Road company with Rosilands oldest Sister ,Deirdre Dry
When I was about 14 years old my Sister worked for C. & A. Modes..modelled for the clothes they stocked...
Coffee bars one opposite the Council Offices and can remember drinking Russian Tea..felt so grown up then.
I live with my Husband of almost 54 years now..In South West France....and loving the life here...
