Alan Avenue
A Memory of Failsworth.
I live in Australia now . I grew up on Alan Avenue [off Lord Lane] . I was the eldest of 5 children [the Martins] . We had a great life there. I have countless memories of those days in the early 1960s. Walking to Stansfield Road school. Playing football in Brookdale Park. Bonfire nights on the fields at the back of our house. Looking at the trains going into Manchester over Medlock Vale. One highlight was being on the back of my Uncle Ken's scooter and being taken to Clayton Bridge railway station [since closed] . Playing in Bluebell Woods and cutting my head open once when chucking stones and having to be rushed into Ancoats for stitches. Andrew [Andy] Martin
