Born In Hayling

A Memory of Hayling Island.

I was born in Hayling in 1948 and lived there until 1958. I lived in Westfield Ave and later Ilex Walk. My parents worked for Sir Arthur Sanders and his in laws Mr & Mrs Olivier (aunt & uncle of Sir Lawrence Olivier) Mr Olivier was a portrait artist in the war. They lived at Orchard Close, which is now an old people's home. One of my earliest memories was at a big dinner they used to give every year for blind people. My sister & I had to walk round the table so the people could feel us and how we had grown from year to year. I went to Hayling primary school and remember Mrs Wright & Miss Paige and also Miss Body & Mrs Bone. I am sure lots of people will still remember them.
