More about this scene

This photograph was taken from the Pleasure Boat Inn. The staithe had become much busier in the 20 years after the war. Motor cruisers were becoming larger and more numerous, almost crowding out the traditional sailing boats. The thatched boathouses in the background and on the left of the photograph are still in excellent repair, but a few of the trees have been felled.

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My great-great-grandfather George Beales owned the Pleasure Boat Inn. He ran a wherry boat from there in about 1890. I am looking for more information about this and for pictures of the Beales family - in anyone can help, please get in touch. Mike Beales mabeales@aol.com
