Born There in 1943
I was born in The Semon Emergency Hospital August 1943 and often wondered what it looked like and why I was actually born there and not in Bradford which is where my birth mother lived at the time, unless she was visiting Ilkley and was taken there as an emergency. I was adopted soon after birth. But have since met up with my half siblings. Both birth parent and adoptive parents are now deceased and so I never found out how I came to be born there.

RE: RE: I Was Born There in 1943
I was born at Semon House, Ilkley on 1st July 1945. My mother was booked into St Luke's Hospital in Bradford, but because of the war it was full so quite a number of patients were sent on to Ilkley to the Semon emergency home. So there would be quite a number of people born there who should have been at their local hospitals.

I too was born there 23/02/1944 but have never seen a picture of it, and considering I lived in Yorkshire for 40 odd years, that is sad isn't it. Perhaps we come to a time in life when we look back, it's my sister who brought this to my attention, on a quest of looking at Ilkley.

I also was born in Semon's Home on May 7th 1943. My mother always told me that it was a Convalescent Home as part of St. Luke's hospital in Bradford. She was booked into St. Luke's for my birth but became very ill so they transferred her to Semon's for my birth. I do have some photos of Semon's that a lady sent me when I was researching my ancestry, dates on the pics ranging from 1905 to 1978. I have always thought it looked like a haunted house. I would love to learn more about its history. I now live in Australia but Yorkshire is still very dear to me and I would love to learn a bit more about Semon's so I can pass it on to my grandchildren. I do believe Semon's is no longer in existence. One thing we can all say is we were all born 'On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at' as the song goes, lol Kind regards, Jackie Atkins, Perth, Western Australia
