More about this scene
The imposing Craiglands Hydro on Cowpasture Road was opened in 1859, just three years after the Wells House Hydro. The surrounding gardens contained tennis and croquet facilities, together with delightful wooded walks. Originally forty guests were catered for, but this was extended to two hundred by the turn of the century. The huge ballroom was the venue for many lively balls. Craiglands remains the only hydro in the town to survive as a hotel.
