The Bakery
Who else remembers the smell of that freshly baked bread coming from the bakery here, on the very left of the photo (where the chimneys are)? As I child in the 1960s I would volunteer to go to the bakers and rush home with that hot, freshly baked loaf and devour both crusts.

RE: RE: The Bakery
I do! My father ran the Mens Drapers shop (Tudor House) on the other side of the building under the wooden timbers, and my mother ran the Ladies shop opposite called Mollie Greens, so the smell of that bread lives on!! We lived above my mothers shop on the right and the village and surrounds were my home and where I grew up for many years from the middle Fifties onwards until boarding school. These pictures bring so many memories back and although I still visit Milford regularly I never get the lost atmosphere and feeling of the place that is given in these images.

RE: RE: The Bakery
I remember Berry's bakery very well. My step-grandmother lived in the little house on the green, immediately adjacent. We bought our bread from there often delivered to our home in nearby Lymore.. As my memory goes it is the best white loaf that I have ever tasted. It was hard not to attack the warm loaf before we got it home if we had bought it in Milford.
The jam dougnuts were to die for. My step-grandmother alway kept in well with us kids by ensuring doughnuts and Ribena with ice was available. At the time ice was a rare commodity.
Sadly Milford no longer has a bakery. The nearest old fashioned bakery is Jennings in Lymington which was also quite good but now not so.
