Those Were The Days

A Memory of Pickering.

WOW , this picture brings back HAPPY DAYS . My gran lived in EASTGATE , 116 , ADA ELLERBY a proper gran like they were in the olden days . My paper round started in EASTGATE and finished at MALTON ROAD CROSSING . 120 DROPS EACH MORNING for FRED BOAK . We got ice cream and JUSO'S from MR DOUGLAS'S shop , ice cream was brill think it was EBOR from YORK . Used to play sport with a little coloured lad that lived at STEAD'S , he had 2 sister's . Carnt put his nickname on here as you get wrong now , but it was just banter in them days , I was called LONG SHANKS , but it was fun in them times . I took beer bottle's back to CHARLIE'S PARLER , the ROYAL OAK , I went to PICKERING'S GARAGE to get GRAN'S battery topped up for her radio , OLIVE ARANDALE , lived close to this garage . OLIVE WATSON had a shop next to the rag and bone shop witch was FRED HEBDEN'S . I got my sweet's from a little cabin on wheel's that they pulled out on some rail's , between the BUS STATION and the ROYAL OAK . Must stop now or I shall be writing all night , I love to talk of the old day's , I get wrong often , and told to look forward not back , but I know which way was BEST . By the way my name is CHIBBY CHAMBERLAIN I lived the other side of the water on POTTER HILL , looking at these old picture's has made my YEAR . We are new to laptop's etc , took us days to turn it on , too old for new fangled thing's . O'H HAPPY DAY'S. I will sleep tonight .
