More about this scene
Port Talbot's main industries were farming and mining until the early 20th century. Then the steelworks was built, attracting considerable investment. The steel industry used the docks to import iron and other materials that are part of the steel-making process. The opening of the steelworks was followed by the building of a chemical plant at Baglan Bay by British Petroleum. Port Talbot received its name from the Talbot family, who were related to the pioneer photographer, Fox Talbot.
