Soutergate

A Memory of Ulverston.

Lived in Soutergate, no 50 with my nan, Aggie Gardener and grandad, Hurbert. Went to Church Walk & Victoria schools. I remember well Richy Gelder (smithy), Mr Powell the cobbler, the folk at the old friends, good old Cissy Wilkinson, milk cow shed back of Bugle. Mill dam, fishing with bangers. The Coop was next door to us. John, my mate, lived a few doors away. Sliding down the road on cardbord boxes. Going to the cattle mart. Bardsea, swimming. Had five cousins living in Croftlands. Could go on & on. I love Ulverston & always will 'cos that's where me mum was born.

I ought to know you Pete Foxton, I lived on Town Bank Rd from 1935 to 1955.
I like your memories and could smell the smithy as I was reading! I'm now 82 and enjoying looking back.
