The Three Ways Community Centre Arundel Drive

A Memory of Borehamwood.

The Three Ways Community Centre in Arundel Drive holds many happy memories for many people of Boreham Wood. You might be interested to know that the name came from the three, roads, Cranes Way. Manor Way, and Ripon Way. Around 1960-61, it was decided and agreed by some of the local residence committee, to try and raise funds for the building and they did this by knocking on the doors and asking if they would like to buy ‘a brick’, I can’t quite remember how much it was, it may have been ‘one penny or thru-pence’ (old money). All I know was that my dad was one of the collectors!
Once the plans were drawn and they raised enough money, the building commenced in March 1961 and was scheduled to be up and running by September 1961. The original design structure of the roof was curved and many years later it was rebuilt.
In 1963-4, I and a lot of other teenagers started going their weekly youth club that used to be run on Sunday evening where they use to have a jukebox and you could buy soft drinks and packets of crisps. I remember going there, it was quite an exciting time, it was a place where you could meet many of your friends and talk about all the latest fashions, clothes, music hits and your favourite ‘60s’ groups. Does anyone remember going there?
