My maiden name was margaret greenfield and I used to go to st batholomews church regularly and I was confirmed there in about 1951. I was friendly with a girl named Brenda Falcus who lived in granville drive. My sister now lives at 73 granville drive which was a council house originally but she has now bought it. Do you remember the shop that used to be along there on the corner. Before those houses were built we used to play along there and used to build dens to.play in

Jean Sheard mentions the Embassy Dancehall. This was not actually opposite St Bartholomew's Church but a bit further north, a little short of the junction with Northumberland Avenue. In the mid 1950s young girls from round about used to go to this dancehall for ballet lessons. The ground floor beneath the dancehall was taken up with Walter Willson's shop.

Have just seen the memory from Joyce Dick. Knew her and her sister when I was about 18 and travelling on the train from Forest Hall to Newcastle to work, down the cinder path and in the village. Remember the Misses Armstrong shop and Ritz cinema, also tennis club and Gordon!
My grandmother, two aunts and father owned Brown's paper shop. I am son of Billy and Joan Brown living in leeds now. Fond memories of my childhood living in East Forest Hall Rd collecting paper money on Sunday mornings in an old Bedford slide door van. Miss Livingstone my teacher and Mr Hindmarsh (headmaster). I lived with my family in Connaught Gardens from being born in 1949 to late 1960 when we moved to Shiremoor. At the end of our street was an overgrown, rubble strewn wasteland which we called 'The Croft'. A natural childrens playground at any time of year until the postal sorting office was built on it and we had to go to find similar places to play around, near the Fusilier Pub. Does anyone remember Ted and Edith Potts who lived at No. 4 North Croft? They loved ballroom dancing and used to go to the Embassy opposite St. Bartholomew's church where I was married. They were my parents. They lived next door to Polly Burdus, a retired local school teacher who laid claim to teaching the Blue Peter presenter, Peter Purves! My maiden name was Glendinning, Anne, and we moved from Benton to Lilac Avenue in 1968 when I was 7 years old. We lived there while the house upgrades took place and quite a few of the families were shipped out to live in Killingworth but we stayed as my brother was disabled so we couldn't move into the towers where most people were sent.

My name is Brian and I lived at 26 Granville Drive. In those days the road ended at about No 40 and then there were fields all the way to Backworth. Joyce Dick was a particular friend. We all went to St Bart's Church and what a great vicar we had - George Foster. The Ritz was a must on Saturday.
I was born and lived in Forest Hall, 1952-1968. I have very happy memories of living in Forest Hall,as a child. I was born and lived in my grandparents' house, in Firtree Avenue, until I was 2 years old, then I lived in Granville Drive, until I moved down south with my parents in 1968.
