Walter Willson/Embassy Dancehall

A Memory of Forest Hall.

Jean Sheard mentions the Embassy Dancehall. This was not actually opposite St Bartholomew's Church but a bit further north, a little short of the junction with Northumberland Avenue. In the mid 1950s young girls from round about used to go to this dancehall for ballet lessons. The ground floor beneath the dancehall was taken up with Walter Willson's shop.

When I visited the area recently I noticed that this building has been demolished and the ground added to Percy Hedley's Chipchase House site.
