More about this scene

The fortress, named Anderida, was built in the 4th century AD as one of the Saxon Shore Forts to defend Roman Britannia from Saxon raiders. In the middle ages the port was one of the Cinque Ports, before the sea turned to marshes. The castle was restored in the 1930s: the ivy has long gone.
