Stubbington 1964 67
A Memory of Stubbington.
I landed up in Stubbington after Boxgrove School in Guildford closed ( truly Dickensian!)
I was terrified of Arthur Moore, he was just awful, I never had a clue about latin and he really enjoyed the fact that I was a waste of time in that department, chalk spit and dandruff flying in all directions.
I went to a reunion at the RAC club in London about 10 years ago with a long time friend Robert Dalgliesh, the school had just closed and a member of staff saved all the school pictures on the walls, so I have a great school picture in the black frame from 1966, plus one of the second fifteen "rugger" team..
I must admit that after Boxgrove Stubbington was a doddle , I remember going through the grounds of the convent next door to the school and going up to the off license in Ascot to buy sweets at the weekend ( I was a full boarder) I dread to think what would have happened if I had got caught !!
I remained a friend of Andrew Walters after he went to Shrewsbury and took the cloth, he married Sally Armstrong the matron and she died very young.

Also, check out the Francis Frith Website which has a 'Memories' section called "Stubbington at Ascot". Well worth a read.
