Amersham To Australia

A Memory of Amersham.

My name is Philip Bradshaw & I was born in Lexham Gardens, Amersham in 1949. My Mum, Jean Emily Bradshaw (nee Cook) was also born in the same house. Her father, Edwin or Edward, was a printer & a lay minister for the Methodist Church & is buried, with my grandmother, at the rear of the Methodist church in"old" Amersham.
I have 3 brothers & we moved to Australia in 1957. My memories of Amersham are as a young boy but the main thing I remember is how pleasant the town is / was. I attended the St Georges school for a while before going to the Chesham Bois school, loved the woods & watching the trains; steam in those days as far as Rickmansworth then electric into London.
I returned briefly in 1999 as part of a holiday to the UK, except for Tesco's & Springfield's that used be Woodley's builder's yard, the beautiful town still looked as beautiful.
I am reading the book "Amersham on the Hill: Last Outpost of Metroland" which I am thoroughly enjoying.
