Memories of Aveley, Stifford Road c1955
Does anyone remember Clifford Sach and his wife Joan, he used to help out at Aveley Football Club, I am married to his youngest son, Stephen, who went to Love Lane School, so he tells me.
I lived in the High Street (122) from 1946 until 1981. I went to the Infants and Junior schools and graduated to 'Bushey Bit' which basically means I failed the 11 plus. I have so many fond memories of the village 'beauty' spots: Reidy Pond, The Tunnel Pit, The Flat Pit & The Dog's Grave to mention just a few. Most of all I remember playing football during the school holidays on the Tunnel field. Mr. Fletcher the groundsman would even let some of us play table tennis in the wooden pavilion when it was raining. Can't imagine that happening these days. Our neighbors in the High Street were the Girkens and Mrs. Frankland who was grandmother to Michael, Jimmy and Freddie Tubby. I can't remember the other ...Read full memory
Memories of Aveley
I went to this school for 2 years in form one and two. I remember one year we had an open day and did performances for parents. I used to love that slide when I was little. I grew up in Aveley, my parents moved from London in 1966 when I was 2 months old, we used to live in Mill Road (my parent still do). The biggest thing at the Rec was the yearly Fair. Great memories.
Hi Donna, Nice to hear from you... I have fond memories of Vi and Bill Appleton, surprised to hear that they sold the house, had many lovely days there, especially in the summer playing in the pool, hardest thing was keeping Jackson out he he.. Do you know what happened to them? Also Bill's brother Lenny?
I lived in A prefab in Tamerisk Road, and travelled to Dagenham County High School each school day. Steam train to Upminster, District line to Heathway, 148 bus to outside the school.
