When my grandfather, Arthur Andrew Rush, proprietor of the Old Ship Pub in Aveley, died he left Lennard House and the surrounding land + two red brick cottages fronting onto Park Lane, to my Mother, Lilian Gough.
Granddad Rush had previously built in about 1949/50, two bungalows adjacent to Lennard house, One "Meadow View" for us and "Sunnymeade" for my aunt Gladys Barker.

In the 1960's my grandmother owned what I always new as Lennard house it was a huge place that my parents told me used to be the dower house to the Belhus House and and my uncles attempted to dig out a tunnel that ran between the two houses but had been damaged by bombing in the war my grandmother's name was Doris Beatson Clark do you have any photos of that house?
I lived at the Westrock at Purfleet and went to School at Love Lane Aveley. I was one of the first intakes at Aveley Comprehensive 1963.
I have many fond memories at the School with my friends, from year 3 onwards I was in the School football team and still cringe about Mr Napier.

I used to visit Aveley a lot with my family as a kid in the 1960's early 70's. My Grandmother and Grandfather lived in 75 Hall Avenue. Lillian Maud Challis and Samuel Joseph Challis. They moved there just after my Mother, Laura Margaret was born in 1935. My uncles Joe and Brian were born later. I remember my Gran and Grandad and my Uncles quite well from when we visited. I have very fond memories of growing up in Aveley.
I was born in a prefab in 1947 at 4 East Walk, my dad worked at Thames Board Mills clocking up over 30 years of service (he died in Field Road in 1970), like everyone born there I attended Primary School and the Junior school and entered Bushy Bit in 1958, what a great school, glad to know I am not the only one who enjoyed their early teenage years.

I was born in Central Avenue, opposite Lil and Derek Ward. Born in 1962. The good old days is what I call it, as they were. My dad worked at the Thames Board mill factory, and my mum worked as a cleaner in Love Lane School then went to clean the juniors school down by the village. My brother worked on Knight's farm. Hello, Colin Newberry here. I've already contributed a few memories, read those from others and thought it was now time to come back. Down at the Junior School, I suppose it was 1956/57, we had a new pupil join us in Mr Skinner's class. Does anyone remember Clifford Sach and his wife Joan, he used to help out at Aveley Football Club, I am married to his youngest son, Stephen, who went to Love Lane School, so he tells me.
I lived in the High Street (122) from 1946 until 1981. I went to the Infants and Junior schools and graduated to 'Bushey Bit' which basically means I failed the 11 plus. I have so many fond memories of the village 'beauty' spots: Reidy Pond, The Tunnel Pit, The Flat Pit & The Dog's Grave to mention just a few. I remember Father McNeice, Father Randall and Father Preston as vicars at St Michael's church in Aveley. My Mother Mary Archer was the church clerk at St Michael's for many years from the 50s. She also did some cleaning there, was a member of the Mothers Union and ushered at weddings and funerals so I spent much of my early childhood in the church and it's grounds.
