Help Needed With Info About my Stay at Langley House

Hi, I'm not sure if anyone can help me but I was taken to Langley School when I was about 8 years old (1965). I can't seem to find out much information about the school and just why I was there. I spent about 1 year at the school, all I remember is being taken there on medical advice. I remember my mum only being able to visit me about once a month. Unfortunately my mum has now passed away and when she was alive she would never talk about it. I really would like to find out just why I was there and maybe chat with some of the other kids that were there at the time. The problem is I just can't remember any names and I am not 100% sure of the date I was there. All I can remember is I was about 8 years old. It wasn't a very nice period in my life that I think I just blanked out. I have tried to find out more through... Read more

I was at Langley Residential school between 1956-1958. Does anyone remember Dorothy Kathleen Speakman, a skinny 8 or 9 year old? I remember being able to buy soap and talcum powder and sweets from the school tuck shop on a Saturday morning, trips to Ilkley moor and Mum only managing to visit once a month. I remember being in trouble after only a week as some of us girls stole into the boys' dormitory after midnight (just for a dare of course, we were only very young).

I was at Langley between 1979/83, Mr and Mrs Wright, good people, Mr Trameer and good lady daughter Alex, she'd be 31 year now, I wonder what she's doing. I haven't seen anyone from my day exept Ronnie. I've been to the school a few times and was shocked to see a housing estate there. If anyone knows anyone from my days I'd like to know. Mr Haggis, nurse, Mr C Trameer, Alex etc, Mrs Godfrey, cook, kids etc. Contact me. Mark Bradley

Hi once again. I remember when I was at Langley, it was the best years of my life. We had a really good life with people that really cared about you. I forget some of the names but I remember Matron Galliger, Nurse Scott, Sister Thompson and most of all Miss Stobart our teacher, she was a lovely lady, very smart, sometimes dressed in Lincoln green. Then there were us kids ourselves that made Langley Sschool what it was, and I believe most of us loved it, I know I did, and we have found just one of the boys, or should I say he found Ron and myself, thankyou Trevor for getting in touch.

I was a pupil when the school first opened and at that time it was known as Baildon County Secondary School West Lane. Three of my happiest years were spent at this school where the staff dedicated much of their time to extra curricular activities including football, cricket, athletics, cross country and many more sports. Especially enjoyable was a whole variety of outward bound pursuits lead by Mr Cogan who took us on numerous camping, potholing, climbing, YHA trips in the Yorkshire Dales and Brittany in France. Allan Crapper and myself even slept out in an igloo we built during one particular bad winter. Our cricket team won the Bradford Schools Cricket Trophy two years in a row in 1964 and 1965. We also had a successful football team that was runner up in one of the Bradford Football Sheilds in either 1964 or 1965. Mr Ogden was the headmaster, Mr. Turner for Science, Mr Davis for Geography, Mr Sid English for English, Mr Bill Morgan for History, Miss Myers... Read more

Hiya to anyone who was at Langley School from the 1950s to 1961. All in all I spent most of my school life there. My friends there were Hilda Makin, who sadly died in the 1960s, Margaret, I think it was Green, Denise Holt, Lilly Clark, just to name a few. Also the boys, Partick Sisck, Trevor Jackson, Cyril Oxsey,  Stanley Cordenly, Gerald Peel, Allan Jowett. I also remember David Both and not forgeting Ronald Barker, who was there for 18 months. If anyone remembers me feel free to get in touch, and all the best to you all for Christmas.
Carol Barker.

My sister was employed as a nurse?? at this BIG house around 1955/56. One Christmas the management invited me via my sister Beryl Carter to play my trumpet for all the children many with heart problems. I slept overnight and had a great time as it was Christmas Eve. I remember I had to catch the bus home on my own from Shipley to Greengates  because my sister was on duty that Christmas day.
