Childhood Memories

A Memory of Battle.

As a young boy in mid to late 1940s and early 1950s I used to travel from my home in Wisbech to spend my summer holidays with my grand parents who used to live in Marley Lane. They had a bungalow called Birch Holme that was white in colour and with an extensive plot of land. Next door was a farm which I believe was called Windmill Farm. I remember going round to the farm to play with the farmer's son whose name I can't remember. Eventually my grandparents moved from Battle to Hastings and lived in St. Helens Road.
A couple of year's ago I drove down Marley Lane and noticed that the bungalow is no longer there. Instead a very nice property now sits on the plot.

Comments & Feedback

My Grandparents also lived down Marley Lane, they had a laundry business. As a child in the 1960 I stayed with them during the summer holidays. I have visited recently and the bungalow and laundry has all gone and a small set of houses have been built there . My Grandparents were Glaygds and John Flavell. Also I’m interested in the people that ran the garage in the High street I believe they move out to Robersbridge to run a garage .
