Childhood Holidays

A Memory of Beadnell.

We used to holiday at Beadnell and Seahouses in the 1950s. There was my Mam,Dad,Auntie,Uncle, Nanna, Rexy the dog,and myself. We used to all squash into my Dad's works van and head North from Newcastle.
I have wonderful memories of The Luck Bungalow, which was a wooden shack right on the dunes, (where the car park is now)it had no running water and we had to take our Billy cans to a tap in the wall of the farm to fill them up. There was a chemical toilet in a little hut outside and no electricity, cooking and lighting was calor gas, but I loved it. I remember going into Dorothy's Cafe for ice creams after family fun on the beach and in the sea.
We made friends with the fishermen, especially George Hall (and his wife), who we would visit at their bungalow just further down from the fisherman's huts, and who sometimes would take my Dad out in the fishing boat.
I have a few photos from these holidays but, sadly, none of Dorothy's cafe.
Wonderful happy memories.
