More Memories Of Living In Bedlinog

A Memory of Bedlinog.

How could I forget another treat - a day out in Barry! This was before the fairground entertainments were there; there was just miles and miles of sand (at least that's how it seemed to me). I think we used to get there by train because I'm sure the trains ran through Bedlinog in those days. My dad's parents lived in Trelewis so that was another treat - spending a Sunday afternoon with them, I think their cottage was called Gilfach Maen cottage - there were two of them. There were other houses further up the mountain but these were two on their own. There was no electricity but lovely brass oil lamps and my grandmother cooked on an old fashioned stove with an open fire. My grandfather kept the garden well stocked with fruit bushes and vegetables and was none too pleased when the local sheep decided to visit and help themselves!

I always felt that living 'the good life' eating all home produced food attributed to my father reaching the age of 100 and his sister 101, I'm convinced it gave them a good start in life, and indeed their parents lived to be 87 and 93 respectively.

I'm now 77 and constantly trying to keep up with progress. I'm sure times were hard then for people trying to make a living, but there was a lot of love and laughter around and for me, very happy memories.
