More about this scene

This is a quiet moment, on what in pre-bypass days was one of the busiest roads in Dorset, apart from the postman calling at No 12 (right). Run by Victor Lock and his son, with telephone number Bere Regis 1, this was the post office from 1927 till 1973, when it moved to West Street. Opposite there were also a number of businesses, including that of carter George Vacher, which evolved during the century into the Bere Regis Motor Service with their familiar but drab brown coaches.
