Originally built in 1790 for Sir John Legard, Storrs Hall was purchased in 1806 by Col John Bolton, a local philanthropist, who from 1808-11 transformed it into the fine Georgian mansion we see here. Unfortunately, Bolton's wealth was based on Liverpool shipping, which included connections with the slave trade. After his death in 1837, the house passed to his nephew, and it was converted into a hotel after the latter's death in 1887.
