Bramhall 1950/58

A Memory of Bramhall.

Catherine! I was also at pownall green and high field with mr Williams, mr allport and another female teacher, I cannot remember, but I rememb
er mr fox for all the wrong reasons. I lived in moreton avenue off lumb lane in the same area was all the peach children, Wendy whitlow, at school my mates were Jill taboada, Pam Eastwood Irene tucker and Lynn jones. So many happy memories of school, I often wonder what has happened to all our school chums! When friends united was in full swing, I was in touch with Graham frankland and Jill taboada came to stay with me in about 1979. I could proably recite all my classmates names as I was one of "the young ones" and stayed in mr Williams class for 2 years. I am in touch with Elaine smith who had updated me on several peers, spent many a happy hour sledging in Benja fold, bramhall baths and bramhall park were our top hang outs!

Hi

Although you don't quote your name, I showed your post to my father, who happens to be the Mr Williams referred to above. Now aged 91 and long retired ( ill health in 1981 forced earlier than planned retirement ) he has relocated from retirement in North Wales to a quieter location outside Nottingham. .The other teacher was possibly Jean Shaw. Dad remembers the names in your post so may very well remember you ! Oh, and he says ten out of ten for effort !
wow, your response brought a tear to my eye! Mr Williams was the mist amazing man. So easy going, yet a wonderful teacher. I had the pleasure of being in his class girl 2 years, I suspect I flunked the 11+the first time, just so I could remain at high field. Tip & run was the most fun we had! My name is/was Jacqueline Chappell, a bit of a tom boy, rebel, but also a caring little tyke! Please give my father my very best good wishes.......the two years in his class were the best! Where in n. Wales are you?
Apologies for the mis-spelling, but I expect you get my drift. I was so excited to hear about your dad. He was a lasting influence on the rest of my education. Having re-read your post, I see your father is in Nottingham. I live in Gloucester now, not that far away. I would love to visit and chat about the schooldays. A few more names to bandy about are Irene tucker, gwyneth jepson, Paul Pearson, Roger Mills, Brian Lee. My mum used to manage the dry cleaners in the village. My sister Marilyn also remembers your dad. I went on to Cheadle grammar school for girls, but only for a very short time as my mum and dad bought a hotel in Newquay, Cornwall, where I spent most of my time on the beach and in the surf!
I was born in Wyndale Nursing Home in Bramhall, lived at 6 Kitts Moss Lane, 12 Lees Road and 22 Thorn Road before I got married. Beryl Jepson was one of my best friends when we went to Macclesfield High School and I once went out with Brian Lee. I went to Syddal Park School until 7 then Cheadle Hulme School. Have very fond memories of growing up in Bramhall. Who remembers Hoyles ice cream, best in the world. Also Minshalls, Dickens Cafe and Tudor Cafe that used to do wonderful marzipan animal cakes. Also happy says at the Tudor Cinema and Bramhall open air baths.(Barbara Smith then Shaw)
