Celebrating 75 Years

A Memory of Bray.

My parents met in Bray when my mother worked at the Hinds Head Hotel and my father sang in St. Michael's choir. She served the thirsty singers! This was back in the late 1930's.
Born and raised in Bray parish I was confirrmed and later married in St. Michaels. For many years I was an active member of St. Michael's sunday school and youth club, with fond memories of the boys there !
In my teenage years I had my first job at Freddy Jones grocery and wine emporium on the main street. Loved meeting the people - hated cleaning the bacon slicer. Really loved break time sitting on sacks of brown sugar in the back room munching on cream cakes.
My grandfather died in WW1 and is the top name on Bray War memorial. The ashes of my parents are buried in St. Michael's churchyard.
In the 1960's (after uni) I emigrated to Canada but have returned many times. Most recently this August (2018). So much is still the same...the Crown, the Hind's Head, the Lych gate (the kissing gate we called it) and of course the beautiful Normandy church. Do hope Bray will continue as lovely and unchanged for the next 75 years.
