Burmarsh

A Memory of Burmarsh.

The place where I grew up with my five brothers and my sister. We used to play cricket on the green but there is no room there now because of all the trees! There was a shop in those days too and a weekly bus into Hythe. We did not sit watching TV or playing computer games, we made camps in the bushes, picked blackberries and walked to the beach as well as catching eels and newts in the dykes. I remember going out early in the morning to pick mushrooms from the fields for our breakfast and have not found any that taste as good as they did since!

I used to clean the brasses in the Shepherd and Crook to earn some pocket money and help my grandmother tidy the church yard. We were all baptised in the church and some of our ancestors are buried there. There were members of our family living in Burmarsh from at least 1826.

Any Cottingtons, Tumbers, Cliftons, Frisby,s etc out there that remember the Drays?

Susan, sorry can't remember you; very ungallant I know, but if you were younger than Jeannie I would have move ( to St Marys Bay). Used to play cricket with George, sometimes be out with Les. John was always too busy, Jeannie was approx. 3 at that time.
Lived in Burmarsh 1956-1969, Dymchurch primary then Harvey. Send my regards to the lads. Apologize for my being a prat at that age..........they'll understand I hope!
Lived at 21 Church Road (as it was then.) Brother Duncan.
