The Lees Of Callow End
A Memory of Callow End.
My father's mother's family (Lee or Lea) lived in a cottage called Brook House, near Broadlands Farm. We have a picture of Brook House painted in about 1910, in which it seems as if the cottage may have been part of the original 'Brook House' (a much grander building), and was perhaps actually a stable block or coach house belonging to the original 'big house'.
My great-grandfather worked for Powick Asylum and we think that Brook House may have been a tied cottage. It was demolished in about 1940, we believe.
My great-grandparents (Henry and Mary-Anne) died in Brook House on the same day in 1920, probably of influenza. They are buried in Powick Churchyard.
