Cantley As I Knew It

A Memory of Cantley.

I was born there 1929 and i lived there till 1945 we had 3 shops a p office postman lived in village delivered 3 times a day also a policeman on his bike many good memories of the village helping on the farm wartime harvest time spud picking also pulling sugar beet riding the horses we all learnt to swim in the river the older ones taught the younger ones i guess there not many persons who would me left l left there and went to londen when i was 14 have been back a few times met up with ray and shirley pinkey george and frank able geoff curtis the cordy girls hewitt familey so many to rember we only had 2 teachers at school have looked at thier web site lots more now i met joan nelson her familey had the pub then 1953 in gibralter she was playing in a bang l was in the navy l
Lived no 4 church road with my brother and 2 sisters jim clayton 86 years old coming home from school a german plane came out of clouds was low but it went back in we had a few aircraft did come down around the village american planes came back from germany around tea time some had bits missing
