More about this scene

The façade of Ye Olde Red Lion pub in Park Road had undergone some minor changes shortly before this photograph was taken, with the removal of two decorative signboards above the main doorway and the replacement of a Victorian lamp above the entrance with the glass globe. One of the signboards advertised the wares of the Mitcham & Cheam Brewery Company, whose local brewery was situated at the main crossroads of the village. The lettering on the windows closest to the camera advertises teas and dinners, while that on the far window lists brandies, wines and whiskies. In the distance Whitehall, on the Malden Road, is visible.
