A Memory of Cirencester.

My uncle Ralph Smith was born in the round house in 1926 and my mother Gwen Smith was born there in 1928, Their father Edward Smith ( my Grandad ) was the last working Ox man in England, He and his oxen appeared In the film The Mummy , King Solomon's gold mines and the Devils disciple , he started working for Lord Bathurst at the age of 12 yrs and stayed there until he was 62, his son Uncle ralph was a carpenter on the estate for 50 years so they served 112 yrs between them, They were two of the nicest men you could ever meet to real old country men,, My nan Dorothy Smith worked on the estate by taking tea and food round for the working men on the estate in all weathers ! and was a wonderful nan to me . finally my Mum left the park to marry my Dad and moved to London. my family still work for lord Bathurst to this day
