The black and white signpost in the foreground will bring back nostalgic memories for some of motoring as it was half a century ago. One arm of the signpost points to Gloucester, which lies on the Severn, while the other arm points to the Wye valley. In between these two great rivers lies the Forest of Dean, of which Coleford is one of the principal towns.

Chas Kay was my Great Grandfather and he owned the Grocers store in Coleford for several years.
This photograph brings back many memories of the Coleford of my childhood. The area round the Town Clock has changed a few times over the years mainly to accomodate the increase in traffic. The building on the far side of the clock in the High Street was a huge ironmongers called Terrett Taylor & Co. It was owned in the 1950s by Mr H. J.
