Life At 32 Dora St Early 50s

A Memory of Collyhurst.

I remember waiting for Marco Rae 's ice cream horse pulled beautifully painted cart.each evening.I could hear the horses hoofs clippity clop on the cobbled road (Sand St.) Then Marco would ring his bell. My mum would give one of us kids a glass for 6pennith of ice-cream with extra raspberry sauce. the biggest decision for me was cornet or wafer . I don't remember what year the cadbury flake was added and called a .99. I think when Granellis opened their ice-cream parlour on Rochdale Rd was when the street delivery stopped .Does anyone have that info? I was born in that house in 1948 before there was electricity put in. we had gas "mantles"?? for light and fireplace for heating water for our tin baths . My mum would put all the dirty laundry into sheets and tie it up ,put it on the pram and take it to the washouse next to the Osbourne House pub. I remember being very frightened by the size and acoustics of that building that also housed the public baths and swimming pool.
