More about this scene

Harbour hotels see their share of odd events. On 17 March 1891 six men appeared out of a blizzard in a small boat, having rowed several miles after their barquentine Ethel went aground at Heddonsmouth. Apparently none the worse for their experience, they were entertained by Captain John Ley at the Marine Hotel (left).

A Selection of Memories from Combe Martin

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Combe Martin

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

That's the beach at Combe Martin, Sandy Cove is round the coast from there. In 1965 I was living in that building you can see in the middle of the picture. Note from Editor: Thank you for the information - we are now changing our records.
Always stayed at Wavecrest with mum and dad plus the Green family each year. Good old Mrs Mills. Always had a trip to Lee Bay on "Bills" boat. Great Memories. Is Sue Green (my age) still around?
