More about this scene

A new visitor centre now marks the entrance to Conisbrough Castle, one of the best-preserved Norman castles in the country. The tall, cylindrical keep with its six massive buttresses was built about 1180 by Henry II's half-brother, Hamelin Plantagenet, and still comes as a surprise as you approach this small South Yorkshire village on the A630 south west of Doncaster.

A Selection of Memories from Conisbrough

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Conisbrough

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I remember going to visit my grandparents and being carried around the lock and talking to the bargees with my grandad.
